Hot Oil Treatment: Coconut Oil

Cold dry air isn't just a detriment to your hair, but your scalp as well. Right when the weather starts cooling down is when I notice a change in my scalp. It gets so so dry and itchy to the point where I'm basically scratching my scalp all day. No bueno. When I first went natural, it took me a few months to realize that the itchiness wasn't from dirt but from dandruff!

I add hot oil treatments to my regimin during this season to keep my scalp hydrated and itch free. I like using coconut oil the best because it's the easiest to apply as it's already in a solidified state but melts after contact with the scalp.

I apply it the same way I would apply hair grease (way, wayyyyy back when I still used that stuff), section hair, part, and apply.

I do this treatment on wash day, at the same time I deep condition my hair, kinda like a double dose of treatment all in one sitting. I go under the dryer for at least 15 minutes. Sometimes I rinse right away, other times I don't. It really just depends on what I've got going on. This treatment easily lasts all week until I'm ready to wash my hair and do it all over again.

  1. Great idea. Thanks for posting this. Very helpful and informative indeed. Keep it up. Have a great day!

  2. ohh, I should give this a try! Right now, I'm rocking crochet braids as a protective style, but I can definitely get to my scalp.
